Guyana Folk Festival 2004

eCaroh Sponsors Spoken Word Symposium at Columbia University in NY
September 3 and September 4

eCaroh Caribbean Emporium CEO, Ron Lammy, a Columbia University graduate, has partnered with Aaron Fox, Director, Center for Ethnomusicology at Columbia University to host the Guyfolkfest 2004 Symposium. 

Guyanese Word: Spoken, Written, Sung, and Drawn
will be held at Columbia University's Morningside Heights campus in Manhattan.

Day # 1:  Friday, September 3, 2004

The symposium will extend over two days.  The opening session will start at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, September 3, 2004. After the formal opening ceremony, the symposium will move into the first plenary session, a roundtable discussion that will focus on Guyana's literary heritage. Several of Guyana's internationally recognized writers and Guyana Prize winners will participate in this session.  Among the expected participants are Cyril Dabydeen, Fred D'Aguiar, O. R. Dathorne, Michael Gilkes, Stanley Greaves, Peter Lutchmonen Kempadoo, Paloma Mohammed, Henry Muttoo, and Gokarran Sukdeo.  Juliet Emanuel and the distinguished Guyanese radio commentator Kojo Nmambi are expected to moderate the roundtable.  This session will end around 3:30 p.m.

Day # 2:  Saturday, September 4, 2004

The second day of the symposium will start at 10:00 a.m. and will feature concurrent panels, readings, audio-visual presentations, performances, a dance workshop, and a closing concert.

The registration fee for the symposium is $25.00

The Columbia University campus in Morningside Heights is located at Broadway and 116th Street in Manhattan.
